Default wont detect USB mouse

hi,

i just reinstalled win98 and it wont detect my usb mouse. It also
wouldnt do this before, although i think that was a fresh install that i
did a long time ago as i have not used or turned on this pc for a long
while.
The message i am getting is "..you can safely attach a serial mouse
now."
I also havent used win98 for a long time.Does it automatically detect
USB mice ???

TIA for any help

You need both USB-compliant hardware and USB
drivers to make the ports work (i.e. detect USB mouse
on boot.)

Go into the BIOS setup and make sure the USB controller is
enabled. Be sure to save any changes. Also, see if this applies to you.
