Winipcfg
BoB wrote:
Last year I had to release and renew winipcfg because I could not get to a particular site. Could not even get a ping response. Ran winipcfg, release and renew and both sites became accessible. Why does winipcfg need this repair, although it is very infrequent? Winipcfg doesn't need this repair, it's the TCP/IP protocol. The TCP/IP protocol leases an IP address from your ISP or from your router (the DHCP server). Normally this IP address is valid for some hours. When it becomes invalid, the protocol asks for a new IP address, and gets one. When the renewing fails, or when the DHCP server 'forgets' that the IP address was already in use and gives it to another computer or whatever can go wrong, the IP address gets invalid and your computer isn't reachable from the internet anymore. Then you have to release and renew the IP address manually. |
