Reinstallation on new SATA hard drive after old IDE66 hard drive c
My Ultra ATA-66 drive crashed and I replaced it with a SATA drive and new
SATA controller card. The new controller card drive both installed without a hitch and I was able to boot to my C-drive with no problems. I then booted to a floppy that contained my tape backup disaster recovery program and restored all of my data from tape. All of the files restored properly. However, when I rebooted my system, Windows 98SE failed to start, displaying a "Write Protection Error" message. When I rebooted again, Windows opened in Safe Mode. From Safe Mode I was able to install the drivers for my new SATA controller card, but the problem still exists -- Windows only opens in Safe Mode! I'm assuming this problem is due to the fact that my original installation of Windows 98SE contains the information for my old Ultra ATA-66 card. How do I repair this so that I can open Windows normally? |

Try this: In Safe Mode, Device Manager, remove ALL drives (hard, floppy, CD,
tape), ALL controllers, and the System device called PCI Bus. Restart and let Windows redetect and install the current devices. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "rdy423" wrote in message ...
