Default Windows ME

I recently got a new hard drive and some memory from a
friend. I installed the hard drive, and the memory in my
computer. I started the computer, and the boot saw the
new hard drive, but it took longer to boot up than
normal. When windows finally came up I ran a Virus scan
on both drives. When it got to the new drive it started
to scan for boot records. Then it said that it couldn't
scan. So I clicked on skip drive. Then it froze, and I
had to restart. However since then the computer will not
bott correctly. I can't get it to start in Safe Mode. I
restored the registry but that didn't help. I also ran a
scan disk, and that hasn't helped. When the computer
tries to load Windows ME I got an error message with a
Blue Screen. The message is as follows. "An Exception OE
has occurred at 0028:C005FE18 in VxDMON(01) + 00006FB8.
This was called from 0028:C1689273 in VxD CDR4VSD(01) +
00014F33. It may be possible to coninue normally" Then I
have the options for CTL+ALT+DEL to restart or I can hit
any key to continue. When I try to continue it sits there
at a blinking cursor. I spoke to another friend about
this message, and he said that the new memory that I put
into the computer could be the cause of it. But if that
is the case then why did the computer start ok the first
time, and then when I ran the Virus Scan all this
happened. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!

Try doing things one thing at a time. Remove or disconnect the new hard
disk - I ASSume that your operating system is still on your original disk.

Now check that your system boots OK with just your new memory. If that is OK
then reconnect you hard disk. Have you fdisked and formatted that disk yet?
If not you will need to do so once your system is up and running before you
can use the disk.

Please Note that connecting a new hard disk will reset Win Me's system restore
as the partition layout will have changed.
