What do you mean "not tolerated by me"?? I don't give a hoot what you
think or what your views are on DST! It doesn't bother me one bit,
think as you please, I don't care! If you want an election over it then
go bug your elected officials and ask them to change it or pass a vote
on it. And as for your "very important" reasons why we should not use
DST I haven't seen any of them posted here.

Look again....

I see nothing that you posted as "very important" reasons not to use
DST, all I see is bitching that you don't want or don't like having
people engaging in an extra hour of sporting activities or enjoying
other pleasant pursuits during that extra hour of daylight after a long
day at work!

What a 'bull' and I didn't do any 'bitching', that suits you much better.
If you like it, fine, but that doesn't mean I also have to.
I said 'one reason and there are others', but as far as I am concerned,
we can leave it at that, yielding any other suggestions. H.

Well this is what you said:

"I think "DST" should be outlawed. It's sole purpose is to allow the
golfers an extra hour of play in the summer time, that's all, other
reasons for it are plain fiction (hogwash)."

That certainly sounds like bitching and sour grapes to me! It sounds
like you feel that people having fun physical activities is a bad thing!
Maybe instead of enjoying outdoor fun after supper people should just
sit on their fat fannies!

Then your apparently "very important" reason:

"...all it does is to upset one's bio-rythm".

Well gee, aren't you retired? What the heck does it matter what the
time on the clock reads? You can go to bed or get up at whatever time
you want so I can't see why *your* bio-rythm should qualify as a "very
important" reason to abandon DST. Maybe you should buy very heavy light
impenetrable curtains and draw them all shut tight an hour early and
leave the outdoor fun for others!

Are you included in that group? Or where exactly on the "scale" do you fit?

The problem is that the time wouldn't change; it appeared to be still
operating under Eastern Standard Time, instead of Eastern Daylight Savings
Time. However, I just tried your suggestion and indeed the change does take
effect as scheduled.
It's obvious I have a problem with the date/time program. If I go and change
the time zone from Eastern to Pacific, the time doesn't change. I don't
think it's a big issue because there should be no reason to change times
except for DST.

snip

On my Windows ME system, the clock does not change when switching
time zones. Also, when changes are made using Tzedit, the clock is not
immediately affected. The change takes place on the date and time
specified by the new settings.

That's interesting Ben because the only thing I can compare it around here
is an XP desktop and changing time zones has an immediate impact.

I'm delighted that you checked in this week. Otherwise I would have thought
that something was wrong with my system.

Thanks for your feedback.

I am at a point where I manually change to the correct time via the official
US-time:
http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java
The shortcut is residing on my desktop, allowing me to check anytime I
please and, while doing so, to correct the time, if need be. Anyone's
choice. H.

Don't know why an earlier reply didn't work, but here it is again:

The result of a little bit of 'googling'. H.
