** No Internet Connection at all **
I posted the information to the XP newsgroup and one reply noted that I
should post in the ME general group. This PC using IE reports "page unavailable..." FireFox says "page cannot be found..." and things like the AdAware update reports "error ..." - it just does not connect to the www. I've plugged this NIC into another WinME machine here and it works fine but back in the prob PC and no internet. Device Mgr reports everything fine and working properly. Here is a "copy" of the info sent to the other groups as I really didn't want to cross post but I'm not getting any useful responses at all. "... I'm having a problem with a WinME PC that needs a fresh look and this group can do that. I have posted this on the Networking group and I'm extremely disappointed that there has not even been one response for more than a week. Basically, this PC will NOT connect to the www. I just reports that the page can't be found and to check the internet settings. Here's the information, with the hope that someone can assist: "Hi, This was posted for a few days now with no responses at all. Is this problem that bad? I'm commenting once again as a last hope for assistance. I've tried a number of things; I downloaded WSOCK32.DLL (online) and copied that using a DOS boot. At least the "explorer" error has stopped but again NOTHING happens when I try to access the internet. Removed Communications from the Windows Add/Remove Programs SETUP section. Rebooted and set Communication back - SAME PROB. I've gone to DOS and tried PING 127.0.0.1 and got NO responses and error 10091 (?) which MS Article advises TCP/IP removal and restore - SAME PROB. Happens with DialUp and happens with cable disconnected. The NIC is fine as I've switched it into another WinME PC that I'm working on and everything on that PC is fine. So the NIC and cable connection is OK IE and FF each note that they can't access the net. Please, if anyone has an idea, please advise as I have to return the PC soon and advise them to just trash the damn thing, Shame since it works fine for their needs other than this problem. Fred S Fred S ***** wrote: I have more info on this problem. I just tried to connect using dialup and got the same error message which is "firefox has caused an error in unknown" It does the same thing for IE, "Explorer has caused an error in unknown" I know the dialup connection worked, I can hear it on the modem speaker and the phone extension. When I completely disconnect the cable AND phone line I get the same error - so something weird is going on. It appears that there may in fact be a connection but for some reason all programs crash or rather won't run as the error appears and the only option is to close the program. Does this shed any more light on this problem? Need some help here. Thanks again Fred |

I suggest stripping out all devices and protocols. Right-Click on "my network places" and choose Properties. Delete all from the configuration and reboot. That's why I thought it was a LSP issue. -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm |

David, That's correct and if you look again at the post (posting time = 12:41 pm) that I made here, you will find that I did that and all the other stuff listed there. Fred |

I am not qualified to answer your question to your satisfaction, Fred, but
how about "Mr. Google"? You may find your answer there, or even with one of the other search engines, i.e. Yahoo, Dogpile, or the like. Sometimes one of them shows you something the others don't have. Sure is worth a try, not? Harry. "Fred S *****" "Fred wrote in message ... Thanks Harry but always check Google first and always before I post
here. Nearly all of the things I've done are a result of that. Unfortunately, nothing new has developed here as I had hoped, at least not yet.
