No sound drivers.....
As title suggests. Obtained a PC with Win2000 on it, but it wasn't working so replaced with Win98SE, but there is no sound on it now. It has an onboard sound chip set thingy, but there are no sound drivers that i can find anywhere....Looked on cnet and cant find anything that looks OK, googled windows 98 sound drivers and found nothing.....anyone help???
Cheers Luke EDIT: Just tried removing device and restarting PC, its just comes up with 'New Hardware Found' (Unknown Device, and also onboad PCI Soundcard) and then searches for the driver, but doesn't find anything on the HDD or the Win98 CD.......... You need to get all the info off of the sound chip and use it in your Google
search. A word of caution--do not put all the info on the chip into one search. If you put in too much information, you might not get a hit. If you put in too little, you might get so many hits as to be useless. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Luke.Davis" wrote in message ... Right, took it apart, cant see anything on the chip itself? Ran Belarc, and its saying there is no multimedia detected?
Could i get a card and put in it alongside the built in chipset? This is the full info from Belarc: Operating System Windows 98 SE (build 4.10.2222) System Model FUJITSU SIEMENS SCENIC T System Serial Number: YBTM003968 Chassis Serial Number: YBTM003968 Enclosure Type: Mini-Tower Processor 667 megahertz Intel Pentium III 32 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache Main Circuit Board Board: FUJITSU SIEMENS D1170 S26361-D1170 Bus Clock: 133 megahertz BIOS: FUJITSU SIEMENS // Phoenix Technologies Ltd. 4.06 Rev. 1.09.1170 10/05/2000 Drives 10.18 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 8.68 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space MAT****A DVD-ROM SR-8586 [CD-ROM drive] Generic floppy disk drive (3.5") Generic IDE hard disk drive (10.18 GB) -- drive 0, No SMART Driver Memory Modules 128 Megabytes Installed Memory Slot 'DIMM-1' has 128 MB Slot 'DIMM-2' is Empty Controllers Standard Floppy Disk Controller Intel 82801AA Bus Master IDE Controller Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) Bus Adapters Intel 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller Multimedia None detected . . . . No sound drivers.....
You can install a sound card to replace the soundcard provided by the built
in chipset. In that case, use the BIOS settings feature to disable the built in soundcard. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Luke.Davis" wrote in message ... And a month later i finally obtain a sound card!
Looked in the BIOS menus when PC started up, but what do i actually need to disable? Cant see anything in there that looks remotely sound related? The card i obtained is a Yamaha DS-XG PCI - When i stuck it in the PC, windows found new hardware, but again put it as 'Unknown Device' - So downloaded a driver for it, but it still wont work! I assume they cant both be enabled anyway, so probably wont work till the onboard stuff is disabled...... Sorry if it seems a little bit 'stupid' for want of a better word, but i really am not a PC person usually! Any further help would be much appreciated! EDIT: Just disabled AC-97 from BIOS menus Last edited by Luke.Davis : May 10th 07 at 08:06 PM. |

No sound drivers.....
What does device manager say about the sound devices?
Did the driver installation go OK? What is the test configuration (speakers, sound source, etc)? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Luke.Davis" wrote in message ... EDIT: Just disabled AC-97 from BIOS menus Forgot to mention, that hasn't solved any problems! Still soundless! |
