Unable to connect to Hardwired Lan with Win98 SE
Your welcome...
How much memory do you have? And how fast a processor? You can shutdown some of the services in AVAST! if your not using them, like P2P, Outlook/Exchange [not OE or other mail programs], and Instant messaging, You WILL need to configure your browsers to use a proxy[AVAST] at 127.0.0.1 port 12080 in your connectionsLANAdvanced so your Internet contact can be monitored and checked for bad stuff. It handles POP3 and IMAP connections for email which covers most services. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org a Peoples' counsel _ _ ~~ "skibuz" wrote in message ... | Thanks! Unable to connect to Hardwired Lan with Win98 SE

I found where to configure my Internet Explorer for the Avast, but on Mozilla Firefox, I wasn't sure. Here is a picture of my Firefox Network setting. . Is it set correctly? My email is POP3. Unable to connect to Hardwired Lan with Win98 SE
I forgot to mention that I have Trend Micro Internet Security on my other 2

Unable to connect to Hardwired Lan with Win98 SE
MEB,
On the Firefox Proxy settings, do I need to leave No Proxy for: localhost, 127.0.0.1? I got NoScript installed on Firefox. I had it installed on my laptop, but disabled it because it popped up constantly. Maybe I should revisit that decision. My Internet Explorer is Version 5.00.2614.3500. Perhaps that is why the Microsoft Updates didn't work? I found on the General Forum a link to IE6. It says it is compatible with Win 98 so is that the version I should download? After I get a compatible Internet Explorer, I'll try again on the Microsoft Updates. What does mdgx.com/hosts.htm do? You referred to it as a HOSTS file. Do I need all 3 Avast providers? Web Shield, Standard Shield and Internet Mail are the ones I have active. In my Add/Remove Programs I show Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, but not Flash 9 or Sun Java. So I'll find those and get them downloaded as well. Thank you so much for your help!
