New Egg Vista Upgrade
I recently purchased an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 from NewEgg with
the option to upgrade to Vista Business when it comes out. The XP Pro CD came with an upgrade redemption form but it indicates you need to visit a website to redeem this. http://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista On that web site is a place for the serial number of a pc purchased between 10/26/06 and 03/15/07. I am unable to redeem this because I cannot provide this information. I did purchase a new Thinkpad a month previous to this offer and this was what I was planning to upgrade. No where in the NewEgg ad was any indication that I would have to purchase a new pc to redeem this offer. Did I get taken? New Egg reps tell me they will handle it with Microsoft but give me no indication of how or where. So if anyone knows about this please post. Other beware. Jeanette |

Do you have a link to the page where the NewEgg offer is described?

Did I get taken?
It certainly sounds like it, Jeanette. Call the credit card company and contest the charge. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Jeanette wrote: I recently purchased an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 from NewEgg with the option to upgrade to Vista Business when it comes out. I use Newegg all the time and find them to be very reputable, not once have I seen
them not honor what they say/proclaim. The cost you paid is the same as the cost of the OEM XP Pro SP2 without a Vista upgrade. However, you did purchase it w/Vista upgrade and are correct that info lacks on Neweggs site as to the exact terms. Contact Newegg, ask them for some confirmation in writing that your Vista upgrade will be honored and don't leave out the fact that their site lacks the information to properly inform each purchaser what the qualifications are to obtain the upgrade. -- Brian A. I went to the NewEgg site and the dates of use looked pretty clear *however* I've ordered from them in error and found they will take a return no questions asked (but there is a small restocking fee) I would *NOT* attempt the credit card refusal... Unless you were charged for something you NEVER ordered... they will merely give you a 30 day extension to contact the vendor and settle it! |
