transfer files from (mostly) dead computer
I'm trying to transfer files from an old computer running Windows 98 (it was
originally running Windows 95 but was upgraded) to a computer running Windows XP. The computer running Windows 98 will start up, but it comes up with an error message and then the blue screen of death almost right after it starts up--there's not enough time to really do anything before that happens. It has USB ports, but no FireWire ports. Is it possible to get files off of it without doing anything like actually taking the hard drive out? Or, because I'm assuming the reason that the old computer is so messed up is because it has tons of viruses, is there some kind of virus removal tool that will work with the computer in the condition that it's in? |

Are you saying that you are unable to hit F8 to go into Safe Mode?

I haven't tried that. What's different between starting up in Safe Mode and
starting up the normal way? "Alan" wrote: Are you saying that you are unable to hit F8 to go into Safe Mode? Alan "bookworm656" wrote in message ... Minimal drivers are loaded in safe mode which may get the system to fully
load. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "bookworm656" wrote in message news I haven't tried that.
