Default Outlook 2000 horrorshow

Massive trouble with Outlook 2000 under Win98SE. I'm trying to use it for
email (just to keep up with using it) and keep having inescapable errors.
Have "detected and repaired" and run scanpst.exe (no errors) and renamed
all my .pst files and set Outlook as my default mail handler and searched
the web for fixes and I'm exhausted.

On startup, Outlook 2000 offers a choice of "open an existing personal
folders file" or "create a new personal folders file".

1) Trying to open the existing (but contents unknown) Windows\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst folder causes an
error popup "Out of System Memory. Try shutting down other programs..."
which is clearly not the case and Outlook crashes.

2) Trying to create a new pst file causes an "invalid page fault in module
OUTLLIB.DLL..." and Outlook crashes.

I can't get around either of these. Uninstalled Outlook (incl Reg entries)
and reinstalled with no effect. Would strongly prefer not to have to
reinstall Office entirely.

No idea what to do, no known web fixes apply or work. Any info on
causes/solutions, including possible effects of security settings, apps like
SpyWareBlaster, and such appreciated, thanks.

You are asking in ther wrong group. Please ask your questions in an Office or
Outlook group, where the Outlook experts can help you.
