Default Windows Me reinstall

I need to reinstall my os because of corrupted files. The
method Compaq support gave had me startup in Safe Mode and
then running setup.exe but when I do this I get an error
message saying there is not enough conventional memory for
scandisk to run. Because my windows me came with my
computer I don't have all the installation cds, how else
can I reinstall windows me without losing all my stuff.

Do an over-the-top install from the HD - look here for detailed
instructions.
