DirextX 9.0c

i recently reinstalled windows after i got a small system
error. upon rebooting my machine i noticed that none of my
games worked, i thought that this was a by product of the
windows reinstaltion and therfore reinstalled them one
after another, and they still didnt work. i then
downloaded all the newest drivers and installed them to,
but they still wouldnt work. i then found out that
durning the process Direct X somehow disappered, and that
would explain why the games didnt work.
when i downloaded and tried to install DirectX , an error
message apperered stating that
: Setup has detected one or more DirectX component
filesare inuse by an application. Please exit all
applications before running DirectX setup again.
now this doesnt make any sense becaseu i can find no
instances of directx running or any applications that
would be using it in my toolbar, and when i press ctrl alt
del.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanx
