Accessing large NTFS directories demands 8.3 formatting
We have just upgraded an old Novell Netware6 file server to a new Server 2003.
When accessing the share from a Windows 98SE workstation and attempting to create a new directory with more than 8 characters, I get an error message that the disk being written to is only a FAT and cannot have more than 8+3 characters. This did not happen when logged in to the original server. Why does it not recognise the correct size and treat it as FAT32? It can read files already on the server in long file format! |
