Default NAV and WinMe

My one-year subscription to NAV's LiveUpdate has expired and I decided
to remove NAV 2005 from my computer and install McAfee.

I now no longer appear to have a hang upon booting up the computer nor a
hang when closing it down. I've been having to use the restart button
and then waiting for Scandisk to clear things up before starting or
closing WinMe.

Is it possible that NAV has been the cause of these issues, which
started about a year ago??

Yes, plus 20 or more others that you have either yet to discover or
forgotten to mention. g

I will leave this for Noel to answer......

On second thought, I will say this.....gently, of course....grin.

YES.....IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE CAUSE!!!!

Glad to see you are rid of it....Norton and ME do not get along at ALL.

Cheers.....Heather

Out of the frying pan, into the fire springs to mind - but at least we see
very few McAfee-related problems here!!

Indeed! Such unfortunately is the power of advertising that functionality
now counts for so little.

- but at least
we see very few McAfee-related problems here!!

There was a time. :-)

True - but at least McAfee learnt from their mistakes, rather than
compounding them!

Yes, but... Have a look at FileList.xml and you will find there one of
McAfee's big early mistakes that Microsoft had to help out with. The
explicit exclusion of avconsol.ini from the state manager's embrace.
About the last change made to SR during the Win Me beta and partly the
result of my having McAfee installed on my test machine at the time.

You must be a newcomer here, Richard, or you would have known that *Norton*
is frowned upon in this 'neck of the woods', simply because it is
diametrically opposed to WinME, spelling nothing but trouble.
You would be well advised to ask before using any of those important
programs, to keep your computer *clean*, unless you are sure of their proper
function.

Harry.

No, I've been checking in here for quite a while. It was, in fact, Mike
Maltby's recurrent dark comments about Norton that got me persuaded to
remove NAV instead of resubscribing. I'm glad I did.
Thanks for all the feedback. This is a very helpful group.
