Default DSL on WinMe?

Win Me can be connected to the internet via DSL quite easily with by far the
easiest method being by using an ADSL modem/router which handles the ADSL
connection, can provide a NAT firewall and then connect to PCs or Macs using
either an RJ-45 network cable or by wi-fi (provide the router includes a
wireless access point). Al that is then required would be for the Win Me PC
to have a network card or motherboard network connection and then use an
RJ-45 network cable to connect the router to the PC. No additional software
should need to be installed on the PC.

It would appear that the Westell Wirespeed B90 is a simple modem with just
the one RJ-45 post so this would limit the user to connecting just one PC
unless they were to connect the modem to a router. Looking at the details
of the modem it would appear to be quite an old model given the user side
RJ-45 connection is limited to 10 Mbps and the ADSL speeds seem to be
limited.

In summary there is no reason why a PC running Win Me and with a network
card or port shouldn't be able to connect to the internet using the provided
modem however this modem wouldn't be my first choice. I always prefer to
use a router modem because such a device is able to provide a robust
firewall through the use of NAT (Network Address Translation) and also hide
your connection from the internet and therefore limiting your exposure to
the bad guys..

I am helping a friend.
I was wondering if it is possible to connect an old HP Pavillion 2950
(WinMe) to a DSL service (I do believe it has an ethernet card)
The provider I suggest to my friend does not support WinMe, but they
say there is no reason it cannot work.
The provider use "We hand off a bridged-over-ethernet connection. In
simple terms an ethernet connection to your computer or router. After
you connect to the Internet using DHCP or Static IP's."
The provider also provide the client with a "Westell Wirespeed Model
#B90" DSL Modem.
Thank you
