ME upgrade
I wanted to upgrade a couple of old PC's on my network from 95 to ME. The
problem is that when I start installing ME I get a message that says I must have a full version of 98 2nd Edition installed to do so. Now according to the HELP screen for ME you can upgrade from either 95 or 98. What's up? Any suggestions ? -- Patrick R. Schuchardt |

What's up?
It would appear that you might not be using a full copy of Win Me but rather a copy of the cheaper promotional version that could only be used to upgrade systems running Win 98SE. Note also that what you are wanting to do would probably be considered to be illegal by Microsoft since Microsoft require users to obtain a separate licence for each PC on which a Microsoft operating system is installed. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP PRS wrote: I wanted to upgrade a couple of old PC's on my network from 95 to ME. As Mike has mentioned there were several upgrade versions of WinME, the "normal" version which allowed an upgrade from 95/98/98se and a very inexpensive promo which allowed 98SE users to "top up" to WinME. The latter is what you appear to have gotten ahold of. Costs 'round here (as I very vaguely recall) at the time were $120 for the regular upgrade and $60 for the "top up". Rick |

Rick Re-formate the hard drive using a Win98 startupdisk and Me will load. |
