PCI Ethernet Controller
Starting a new thread, hope to solve this:
PCI Ethernet Controller, does not appear in Add/remove. In Device Manager, I saw PCI Ethernet Controller, question mark, no driver installed, so I removed it. When I rebooted, now I see a screen " New Hardware Found", windows wants to find the driver for this- even after I removed it. How to kill this message? TIA Mike |

Mike,
It is quite normal not to see an entry in Add/Remove Programs for drivers such as a those for a PCI Ethernet Controller. Rather than removing the controller (although why not simply enable it and install the drivers even if you are not on a network, it's not as if it will cause any problems) make it unavailable in this hardware profile. You will find this an option on the General tab for the controller in the Device Manager. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ms wrote: Starting a new thread, hope to solve this: PCI Ethernet Controller, does not appear in Add/remove. Thanks, Mike, since it was "removed", I will let ME try to find the driver again and disable it as you suggest. Mike S |

Just now when I let windows find it, no luck. Is there a registry key that needs to be changed? Or a URL where I can download the controller and reinstall it again? Thanks, Mike |

Mike,
If you are going to disable the PCI Ethernet Controller there is no need to install its drivers. Instead just disable it in the hardware profile. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ms wrote: Thanks, Mike, since it was "removed", I will let ME try to find the driver again and disable it as you suggest. |

Yesterday, it appeared in Device Manager, was gone after I removed it. Today after cold boot, it is back again but disabling it kills the message. A trivial question- It's been about 8 years since I needed to in W95, in ME I've forgotten how to kill the confirmation screen on the Recycle bin, I looked in Properties, don't see it ???? The only remaining issue is the password screen and the other posts will help. Mike S |

Right click on the Refuse Bin on the desktop and select Properties. You
will find a checkbox at the bottom of the Global tab which if unchecked disables the delete confirmation dialog. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP ms wrote: Thanks, Mike, that worked fine.
