"I KNOW that we could avoid these incessant updates if we wipe the slate clean
and start over.

Whistler and Longhorn and any other BC ski-bar wannabe are not the answer
- they will fall flat because they do not address the most pressing issues of the day.

PC technology was never very good to begin with, and the original architectural base
does not and cannot support today's computational needs. Nor can it withstand
the barrage of attacks being launched against it on a daily basis.

The cost of this is indisputable - it runs into Billions of dollars - and intolerable.

If Microsoft and Intel don't get their skates on soon, companies such as IBM,
Sun Microsystems and/or AMD will run MS right into the History books.
Or perhaps Apple? Think they could set the world on its ear once more?

[Just dreaming of what could be - if things were done properly]"

It seems that Intel bought some roller skates

If the x86 architecture is indeed on its last legs,
then Vista will be the final iteration of Windows as we know it.

Regardless, this change will make today's 500 million PCs
look like TRS-80s by comparison.

And Microsoft is going to be one busy puppy for the next 5 years.

And beyond.....

Default The future is on the way

I've already written to MS, and asked them to redo the WHOLE thing in
assembler, AND make sure that the whole thing is backwards compatible with
all the micro hardware I've bought across the past 30 years, (so that I can
get my old 8086 / 2 x 80286's /3 x 80386's / 2 x 80486's / Gigabyte
GA-586TX3 ...etc. /...and I'm sure there's several others up there in the
loft), so that I can install Vista onto them all ! :-)

regards, Richard
