Virus? Paragraph, space and return marks displayed, etc.
After just spending 6 hours on and off the phone with Microsoft with another
problem, am turning to you with these since they won't help me with windows 98. A document I copied from the internet, that I've used with no problem before, all of a sudden had paragraph, enter and space marks on it and the popup said that it was converting to that format. Now all docs in my computer have it - how can I get rid of it? Is is a virus? (I currently have an old copy of norton antivirus.) Also, one of the three folders containing this and other documents, last night gave me a message that I could only read it (which it subsequently wouldn't let me do since it was "in use by another" which it wasn't). Then it said that it had encountered an illegal operation and will shut down, but it didn't. Help!!!!! |

Have you updated your old copy of Norton with current definitions and run a
full scan? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "California Dreamin'" California wrote in message ... If you are accessing this document using WORD, then do Tools then Options
and View and either turn off (uncheck) the All setting under Formatting marks, or uncheck the particular ones you don't want to see. You haven't indicated what the 'other' problem was, but it sounds to me like the system has developed a fault, either RAM or disk. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "California Dreamin'" California wrote in message ... You can turn these off by either Click on the tool bar icon that looks like a double stem backward P. or In the Tools menu, under options, in the view tab, uncheck show all formatting. |
