Default Win ME reinstall problems

Over the weekend I reinstalled WIN ME (winver 4.90.3000) using the original
CD, as the only possible solution to a myriad of continuing and unresolvable
problems. After many hours of waiting for all the default installations to be
processed and installed there were several error messages on the screen as
displayed he
1. A required .dll file, WINSPOOL.DRV was not found.
2. Error loading POWRPROF.DLL cannot be found.
3. Microsoft windows cannot find IFSHLP.SYS process has stopped
4. A SUWIN error has occurred
5. A General Protection Fault has occurred in module VERX.DLL @ 002:24AE

The following is true; Safe mode is accessible ONLY with the words in the
four corners, however, there are no icons on the screen. I can hear the
normal windows wav file used for a normal boot but then nothing happens after
that. I also tried using the DOS command scanreg /restore but that also
failed. Booting using the access to the CD drive I have access to DOS and all
the drives on the PC and that seems to function properly. In almost all
instances PC boots to a blue screen, (not the blue screen of death) with the
mouse cursor visible but inoperabale. I tried booting from the CD directories
and from C: drive directories, all attempts resulted in failure. Typing
autoexec.bat shows the commands, but I can't discern if the commands are
correct. The scandisk command seems to work correctly according to the
feedback. Some of the files listed as errors are in the directories, not sure
if they are in the correct locations though, how can I ensure that are where
they supposed to be?

Have forgotten all DOS commands over the past 20 years other than those
above. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Power down and try thowing all your peripherals - particularly your
printer - off, (except Kbd, Mouse, Video card and even your Sound Card if it
uses 'special' drivers) and re-boot.

See if that helps, then re-introduce one item at a time.

BTW - You can't boot into WinMe from the Startup (flopp) Disk, you must boot
from the C: drve as normal.

Also - Since you would appear to be doing an over-the-top install of ME, I
recommend reading the advice here!
http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/reinME.htm
(Hint - you have IE6 and WMP9 installed)
