Not sure what any of this has to do with this newsgroup.
Set the hard drive that has been in your system as master w/slave. "Sly" wrote in message ... Well I got a new hd, to be a slave, and xp from a friend. Not sure what one it is. Remember installing a second drive may affect the jumper setting for the
primary drive too. Check your setup cables and jumpers. Furthermore, if you have an old motherboard it may not be able to handle the drive. -- Jon Hildrum DTS MVP www.hildrum.com "Sly" wrote in message ... I assume that the W98 system was working before you installed the new hard
disk (otherwise why would you be asking about XP in a W98 newsgroup). The error means that the new HD is preventing the system from accessing the original HD. Either the new hard disk is not compatible with the original, the original needs to be re-jumpered to indicate that there is now a slave installed, the new HD has not been jumpered correctly, or you have accidentally dislodged a cable (power or data) from the original HD). -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Sly" wrote in message ... Ok, so I need to have my master also set to master, cause
there are no jumper covers in the select for master or slave, its just the pins.. -----Original Message----- I assume that the W98 system was working before you installed the new hard disk (otherwise why would you be asking about XP in a W98 newsgroup). If this is the cause of the problem, then you need to set the original disk
jumpers according to the manufacturer's instructions for a master with slave. Without knowing what these are, it's not possible to be precise. Some disk have a special setting for 'master with slave', others use the same setting for 'master' and 'master with slave'. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) wrote in message ... Windows will report partitions not disks, so I would say that you have
created a 30Gb partition on a 60Gb disk. Do FDISK /Status in a DOS window to see the disk and partition information. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "sly" wrote in message ... tnx got it working, now one more thing.
