Default 98 SE booting issue

Hi have a laptop with 98se on it. Boots perfectly in safe mode, but wont
boot in normal mode- gets half way and hangs. is there a log file that i can
use to try and establish what is causing the problem.

Also any other ideas how to resolve - gratefully appreciated

thanks

Alex

Boot the computer and bring up the Startup Menu.

Select the "Logged - Bootlog.txt" option.

When it hangs up restart it and boot it into Safe Mode.

On a working computer download the free Bootlog Anlyzer from
http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/ , unzip it, and copy the BLA.EXE
file to a 3.5 inch diskette.

Insert the diskette into the laptop and run BLA.EXE
The file you want to examine will be named BOOTLOG.PRV
There will also be a BOOTLOG.TXT file but that will a log created when
you rebooted into Safe Mode.

Scroll down the BOOTLOG.PRV file and look at the last 10 lines or so
in the file. That will show you what was being loaded, or attempting
to be loaded, when the hangup occurred. You might also want to look
at what is displayed when you select the "Show delays" option.

Good luck
