Coupla quick questions about this before i try. First...which win 98 bootdisk should i get...the OEM or the custom? and two....does that"win /d:m" assume that d: is my cd drive? because my Hard drive is split into 3 partitions. the first cd drive is f: (the second g:....but i would be using f: ). just wondering if that should be "win /f:m". or am I way off?

It didn't work. When booting from the floppy, after is says drive f: is loaded and loads the cd-rom drivers, the first thing that pops up (even before the a: prompt) is "CDR101:Not ready reading drive G Abort,Retry,Fail?". I hit A or F, then get the A: prompt. I then typed "win /d:m" and get the same message again: "CDR101:Not ready reading drive G Abort,Retry,Fail?". For some reason it keeps trying to read the empty g: drive, rather than booting in safe mode.
Then I tried the "win /d:m" command from the c:\windows directory. Mistake. Got a string of blue-screens and an unstable system that had to be rebooted. What do ya think? Quote:

Please confirm that you created the "a:\winboot.ini" file.

Well Ben...that fixed that. I can boot into safe mode with cd support. But now i got a diff problem. when i run setup now it doesn't even get started because it says I have too little conventional memory. I tried running scan disk and rebooting as the txt file suggests. no problems...but still a no go. any ideas on this?

If you have plenty of disk space, copy the contents of the upgrade

I copied the files to a folder on c:. but when i ran setup....same msg. ,to be exact:
"Setup does not have enough conventional memory to check your computers hard disks. You need to free some conventional memory before continuing. For information on freeing conventional memory see SETUP.TXT on setup disk or windows 98 cd." What now? I know I'm nearing scrapping this whole thing but there has got to be a way to get this disk to work. It's a legit disk...and i already have 98....this should be easy right? simple update installation? BTW...as you suggested i was in safe mode, so with only essentials running, how could i run on any less memory? Quote:

Try running setup with the "/c" and "/im" switches. For example, if you
copied the setup files to the "c:\win98" folder, click "Start", "Run", = type "c:\win98\setup /c /im" into the "Open" box and click "OK".
