missing or corrupt file prevents install
Problem: Trying to re-install Earthlink's mail client
Total Access 2004 after suspected infection by hijacker or malware (PopUp blocker ceased working). Download and re- install goes fine, but when I try to open the mailbox, this error message arrives: "The C:\Windows\TemporaryInternetFiles\Content.IE5 \25JKT8FE\TA2004_1(1).exe appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file then try again." When I then click on OK, I get the next error msg: "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied." I click OK and the msg windows just shut. Well, obviously I had no business blundering around in REGEDIT last night, trying to delete spyware keys. But what IS a warning, if the fool does not ignore it? Can you help? Can I download a missing .dll somewhere and just move on? |

What happens if you delete your TIF's, do you still get the error? Right click the
IE icon on the desktop, click Properties General Tab Delete Files, put a check in Delete All Offline Content, click OK, when done close out and reboot. Rebooting is not necessary after clearing TIF's, I have another purpose. Once rebooted open either MyComputer or Explorer, navigate to c:\windows\temp and delete all files in that folder. Recheck your system for viruses and spyware. -- Brian A. Jack of all trades, Master of none. One can never truly be a master as there is always more to learn. "Pablo" wrote in message ... Thanks for your reply, Brian! I tried what you said.
Clearing the cache doesn't help. You see, it's a missing or misdirected file that prevents re-installing the Total Access program. -----Original Message----- What happens if you delete your TIF's, do you still get the error? You need to re-download the Total Access 2004 installation program from Earthlink's
web site. This time, when you click the download, instead of choosing to "install from the current location", choose the option to "save the file to disk", and download the file to a folder on your hard drive (such as C:\My Documents). Then double-click that file to run the setup program....but before you do that, do this: Reboot. Open the Temp folder and delete all Temp files: -Click StartRun, type %temp% and click OK. -Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Delete. Delete the Temporary Internet Files: Click Start Settings Control Panel Internet Options General tab. Click the Delete Files button, then put a checkmark in the box to Delete all offline content, and click OK, and OK. Close all open windows and running apps. Disable your anti-virus and screensaver. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and End Task on everything except Explorer and Systray. Then start the installation. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm wrote in message ... missing or corrupt file prevents install
I followed all the instructions, but still not successful.
I'm afraid I'll have to re-install Windows 98 to recover the missing files. I proceeded as described in Glen Ventura's post and got this messsage: Error 1343 The file '_D1763F9D2F334F21A36C2A6B322EDB1D' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'Data1.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM or a problem with this package. When I click on OK I get the following: C:\windows\temp\earthlinktotalaccess2004_1 \windows\access\earthlinkmailbox.msi returned 1603. Any ideas? I really appreciate any help I can get on this! Pablo,
The missing files have nothing to do with Windows, so reinstalling = Windows won't be needed. The problem may be with the installer files themselves, as implied by = the error message. missing or corrupt file prevents install
If you really want the Total Access software installed (I have no use for it),
request it on CD from Earthlink rather than downloading it. There is a link to order the CD on the web page I posted. When installing it from the CD, follow this procedu Open Windows Explorer or My Computer. Browse to the Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield folder. Right-click the InstallShield folder, click 'Rename', name the folder InstallShieldOld, and press Enter. Reboot. Insert the CD and install Total Access. If you get "Installer" errors at that point, update the Windows Installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...eleaseID=32831 Install DCOM98: http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp See also: HOWTO: Troubleshoot Windows Installer Engine Problems http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=260404 Q104985 INFO: Troubleshooting Initialization Errors: http://support.installshield.com/kb/...icleid=Q104985 -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Pablo" wrote in message ...
