If you would like to set up a two PC LAN using existing your phone wires
instead of special cabling, I have two NICs that will work with W98 or
W98SE. They are yours for the cost of mailing them to you (around $5 - $8
as a guess). First come, first served.

These function over phone wires that are in use, or are they using the
second pair? Regardless, I'll take you up on that offer, Ron. I have once or
twice run into the need (or rather, desire) for that among family and
friends who want to use ICS for widely separated machines and don't want the
expense of running ethernet cabling.

These NICs have not been manufactured for several years and in fact, SE
drivers are the latest ones. I quite using them when I went wireless. I
tried to sell them on EBay a couple of times about three years ago and never
had a taker so they have been sitting in a drawer waiting for me to do
something with them.

Well, I'm willing to bet that now that I have them (once I receive them --
THANKS!), I'll never run into a decent use for them again... Or, perhaps,
I'll find one tomorrow, g.

Just to be clear, this data transmission will function on a live telephone
line w/o causing interference to the voice communications, or does it
require non-simultaneous sharing, making it better to occupy an unused pair
if possible?

As I recall, I had it set up both ways and noticed no difference. There is
an instruction manual but the package is all wrapped for shipping so I don't
want to rip it apart to ascertain if my memory is correct. I just got back
from Vegas (brought back some $ for a change) two hours ago so maybe I can
get the package in the mail tomorrow.
