Default Outlook Express 6 Issue. Mail settings change automatically

I use Outlook express 6 on Win2K sp4. I have it set up so that when
it downloads my email, it leaves a copy of each message on the server.
For some reason, after a while. The box that I check for that
setting, becomes unchecked. As far as I can tell, it's totally
random. I don't have to restart outlook for this to happen. I can
leave it on for a week, and then all of a sudden, the settings change.
Has this happened to anyone, and if so, is there anyway to correct
this?

Thanks

Since your question is about Outlook Express and you are running Windows
2000 may I suggest you would probably be better served by posting your
query to a newsgroup supporting either Outlook Express or Windows 2000.
The purpose of this newsgroup is to support users of the Windows
Millennium (Win Me ) operating system.

As to your problem. If you are using POP3 mail it is possible that the
file pop3uidl.dbx in the Outlook Express message store has become
corrupted. As a first suggestion close Outlook Express, locate and rename
pop3uidl.dbx and then restart Outlook Express. Note though that doing
this will cause Outlook Express to lose all historic data as to which
e-mail messages on the server have already been downloaded and on
reconnecting all messages on the server will be downloaded again. If that
doesn't fix the problem then I suspect the problem is due to a damaged
Identity key in the registry. The best fix for this being to create a new
Identity and message store, import the messages from your current
identity/message store and then remove the old store and identity.
