Poledit
We have a few laptops at work still using Windows 98 which our mobile sales
team will be using. We connect these laptops to the network (Windows 2000 server) when in the Office when out of the office they are obviously used as standalone. What i want to be able to do IDEALLY is: Use Poledit to lock down the laptop for users e.g. desktop, etc. However, i can't seem to get Poledit policies working. I am trying to run Poledit from the run command, however i can only get this to run from the CD. When i run from the CD I can create a new usr, grp, etc but then it asks me to save the policy file i don't know how to assign the file to the user so that when they log in all the checkboxes i have ticked will apply to them e.g. they can't see control panel etc. Also any info on how poledit works in a standalone or server environment much appreicated. The laptops are configured to use a domain login for these users wold i need to change alter so the laptops work in a standlone environemnt? Cheers John |

If you really wanted to "lockdown" the notebooks, you would be using Win2K or WinXP on NTFS
as they much more secure and controllable. Dave "JohnDeeze" wrote in message ... | We have a few laptops at work still using Windows 98 which our mobile sales | team will be using. I don't think John can even find his own posts, let alone any replies, s.

Not sure what the specific answer is for you, but here's some additional help on
locking down Win98 (as much as it can be locked down, that is.) www.dougknox.com (Click on Security heading at left.) -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "JohnDeeze" wrote in message ...
