W98SE re-install halts at passwd window, can't input or hit enter
Gateway Neo recovery disks used to re-install W98SE. No problems with setup.
When it gets to the password window after the instal I have no mouse or keybd control. It will boot in Safe Mode OK. Keybd and mouse control all OK. So if I can have help in bypassing the Passwd window or some other fix, that would be great. Tks in anticipation. |

W98SE re-install halts at passwd window, can't input or hit enter
Boot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager Remove ALL Keyboard and Mouse entries Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' Branch (if present) Remove ALL error-flagged entries Boot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the drivers, hopefully curing your problem -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Bryan P" Bryan wrote in message news Gateway Neo recovery disks used to re-install W98SE. And, should Noel's correct solution not work for some reason, try a work
around by assigning a blank password in safe mode: Blank Password: Go to control panel, network, primary network logon and select Windows Logon. Go to control panel, passwords, user profiles and ensure the "all user's" box is marked. If you have a password established, go to control panel, passwords, change windows password, type the password in the old box, leave the rest blank and OK your way out. If you have forgotten your password, delete the .pwl file with your user name (mine is ron.pwl); however, be aware that you will lose all passwords stored in the ..pwl file. If you do not have a password established or have deleted the ..pwl file, when the W95/98 logon screen appears at boot, type a user name only and hit OK. If the logon screen continues to appear and you have Tweak UI installed, go to the Paranoia tab and remove the mark from "clear last user." -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Noel Paton" wrote in message ...
