Default DX9.0C driver probs ATT: GLEE

Hi Glee,
Have downloaded this driver, but not installed yet...am
concerned that it appears to be a considerably lower
version than the driver currently in use.

e.g, you recom a v1.32, but have a v4.1 in use now that
does not work.
Would appreciate your reassurance thanks
Stella

Hi All,
I am a novice so please bear with me here...
I have win98se, and had DirectX8.0 installed. Today i
bought the Sims 2 game and installed it. During the
installation it advised I had to upgrade to

DirectX9.0c -
which was on the disc provided - which I did.
Installation complete, but game won't open. Error

message
appears stating:

"failed to find any DirectX9.0c compatible graphics
adapters in this system. please make sure you have
DirectX9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have

installed
the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer".

According to Device Manager & listed under Display
Adapter, I have an AOpen SIS6326 (GPU) driver v.4.11,

chip
type 6326 RevC5. There are no conflicts.

Does this mean I have to upgrade the sis6326 driver? If
so, to what? The SiS download webpagr does not even
mention this driver, let alone which one to upgrade it

to.

Lastly, the DX diag tool - 'display tab' mentions the
driver doesn't support Direct3D 9+, and also suggests
testing functionality of DirectDraw and Direct3D. The
Direct3D test stated that the display driver does not
support API (DDI version too low).
Would appreciate any advice as I don't know what to do.

Many thanks,
Stella

You apparently have version 4.1 of a driver for an AOpen video card based on the
SiS6326 chipset. The driver I linked you to is a generic SiS6326 driver from SiS
themselves....the chipset maker. They use a different numbering system for driver
versions, so the lower number is not relevant. I suggest the generic driver because
you say the AOpen driver does not work. Are you sure it is an AOpen video card?

To install the generic SiS driver, first uninstall the driver you are currently
using so that the display will revert to standard 640x480 basic VGA. Reboot, then
run the installation for the generic driver, rebooting when prompted. If it does
not work or fails to reboot correctly, start in Safe Mode and remove it.

Hi Glee,
I hope you see this post....
I was reading this thread w/much *Interest*!!
I use to have the SiS 6326 chipset...

I can see Stella's orig. post at the bottom, however not sure if I have the
entire thread here...

I have a question about SiS chipsets....??
The Display Adapter driver pkg. is what I am referring to in my Device Mgr.
Rt. click and look at properties... My info
**I have SiS 650_651_M650_M652_M740
**Driver vs. date is 7-23-2004
The adapter is working properly

I have some confusion...
I go to SiS online... this link is a *saved link* w/my info. (SiS
IdentifiesChipsets)
http://www.sis.com/support/ocis/inde...%201.1%20x%202

More specific info for my chipsets...
North Bridge Chipset: M650
South Bridge Chipset: 962/962L
Graphics Processing Unit: SiS Real256 Graphics, The SiS link has all
downloads for adapter listed...

MoBo book says in specs...
*VGA SiS Real 256 Graphics
Chipset- *SiS 650GX / SiS 962L*

I ended up on SiS site after being thoroughly confused on MoBo manuf. site
for Asus (Board PS4GX)

This is the specific link for MoBo info...
http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...lName=P4SGX-MX

Regarding DX... which is important, I have vs. 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) No
probs R found on any screen tabs when I run test tools. I have Direct Draw,
Direct 3D and AGP Texture Acceleration.

I have (2) questions...
The display adapter that I identified in Dev. Mgr. has date of 7-23-04, I
downloaded the entire pkg. from SiS and it is now installed. The orig. pkg.
that came on MoBo support CD is a older version but I had it previously
installed. This happened... Total crash of system after visiting Windows
Update.

WU offered SiS display software update and I needed some updates for WMP 9
series. I didn't notice the info for the driver that the release date was
*02-01-2002*, obviously too old and I didn't catch it.

After, I couldn't load Windows 98SE nor could I even enter safe mode. I
went to Dos and used commands to run registry checker and restored the
registry to the earlier first boot of that day. I downloaded the entire
pkg. that I'm using from SiS but it was hard to get the pkg. installed. I
couldn't get the older pkg. to *uninstall*, what a mess, I deleted the
adapter I believe in safe mode and was going in circles. Win. kept finding
new h/w and wanted the MoBo install CD which I wouldn't give, etc... I tried
to browse and direct Windows to the new install pkg., however Windows kept
asking specifically for the MoBo CD and blocked me.

Finally, I used the MoBo CD and re-installed the pkg. and finally was able
to uninstall it correctly and I manually installed the download pkg.

Why do you suppose this driver shows at WU dated 02-01-2002, obviously this
is very old and brought my system down? Further, if I go to WU now, even
after the new adapter pkg. WU still shows this driver to install again??
From my experience, I think the SiS 6326 is sooo much better, has more
option controls, etc...

**Main question,** SiS identifies audio 7012 chipset on my machine,
which I also had on my old Jetway MoBo. My support CD has *Sound Max not
SiS...* You will see that discrepancy if you go to the links I posted for
my driver info. I have not updated Sound Max.

Can I use the most current 7012 pkg. by SiS, I would think so?? Can I have
Sound Max and SiS both installed at the same time or do I make a choice??
Should I just stay w/Sound Max and get the most current driver pkg.?

Thank you,
Star

I don't know.
Read here for "What is AC97 Sound":
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/...Soundcards/AC9
7/AC97.htm
or http://snipurl.com/9io7

Some of the AC97 chipsets are listed he
http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...hp?product=339
They also mention that the name SoundMax is also used for that audio system.

I can't say whether you install that SiS 7012 Audio Controller driver in addition to
the SoundMax driver or instead of it, but I am thinking it would be in replacement
of the driver currently installed. I would either look for an updated SoundMax
driver, or leave it alone, if the sound is working to your satisfaction. You might
contact SiS support and see what they have to say. I would lean toward the SoundMax
driver you linked to, he
http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...lName=P4SGX-MX

As for WU, I do not ever download or use drivers from WU....especially display
drivers. Ignore the listing of the SiS video driver in WU.
