dual operating systems

i have windows 98 on the computer.i needed more memory
and had someone to add more they added millemum ne.when i
try logging on i get the message close one or more
programs or free up 1032 mb memory .i recieved
instructions from gateway on enabling windows 98 but not
milloeum ne i do not know a lot about tech issues so i do
not know what to do to keep the millemum ne .i can not log
on at all please help thanks

How much memory do you now have installed? What operating system are you
running as your post is extremely confusing.

Makes me wonder what program is sending you the "free up 1032MB of
memory" since AFAIK, Windows doesn't... and of course that's a full
Gigabyte of memory, there's no way any program running at Startup (or
for that matter at any other time) would require that much.

You might want to look at the following:

ControlPanel/System/Performance/VirtualMemory... make sure the settings a

"Let Windows manage the swapfile" - not "let me do it" and especially
not "no swapfile"

Also check that the drive it's using has a fair amount of free space.


If everything looks good there, next check in at
Start/Run/msconfig.exe/Startup to see if anything's being started that
shouldn't be.
