Remove from right click menu
How do I remove a program (browse with avi codec) from the right click menu?
Thanks, Sasha |

Look for the entry in these locations, and remove them:
Double-click "My Computer", click the View menu Folder Options File Types tab. Scroll down the alphabetical list and select "Drive", then click the Edit button. If "Browse with avi codec" is listed in the box of 'Actions', select it and click the Remove button. Then scroll to the "File Folder" entry and do the same thing. Click OK/Close all the way out. If the Remove button remains greyed out when you select "Browse with avi codec", you will have to search the Registry for the sub-keys, and remove them. They are most likely at: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Browse with avi codec and/or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\Browse with avi codec -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Sasha Gottfried" wrote in message ... Thanks....but it doesn't seem to be in any of those registry files or in
"Drive" in folder options /view file types. When I do click on the "browse with avi" it only opens up 'windows cannot find file' and a 'locate' option. There is an avi codec on the hard drive but we don't need it as an option here. Seems like a ghost shortcut. Anyway to de-ghost it? Sasha "glee" wrote in message ... As dadiOH stated, the file type that you are seeing the option with, is what we
need to know. I mistakenly assumed you were seeing it on drives and /or folders. If it is only on a particular file type, you need to check that entry instead. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Sasha Gottfried" wrote in message ... Hi....
In file types under folder options it is listed as an .AVI extension. In the registry under HKEY classes root / context menu: I have a very long number beginning with: (*67C....................) Sasha, Sorry for the delay getting back to you.
Could you tell me exactly where in the Registry you are looking? I am not sure what you mean by HKEY classes root / context menu What program do you have .avi files associated with? IOW, when you double-click an ..avi file, what program opens to play it? In Folder options File types, is it just listed as AVI file? Or is it listed as it is on my computer, as: "Video Clip", extension: AVI, Opens with: WMPlayer Please give a little more specific info, if you can. In File Types, when you click Edit, does it show the 'Browse' item in the Actions box? -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Sasha Gottfried" wrote in message ... Okay....last question first.
In file types / edit there appears: [Play], [Open].... and then: [AVI codec: detailed information]. I'm wondering if deleting "AVI codec: detailed information" would cause any problems....or solve the issue? In registry, I'm in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\context menu handler and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shell\Shellex\context menu handler -no sign of anything resembling avi I have several video files (AVI) that play with the DIVX Player. What is the file type you are looking at in Folder Options File Types....is it "AVI
file" or "Video clip" or something else? What is the default player for .avi files on your computer? Do they open with the DivX Player when you double-click the .avi file in Windows Explorer? I do not use DivX. There should be an entry in one of the listings in File Types that shows the same wording as what you see on the context menu....'browse with AVI codec". It will be listed under the file type that shows that menu, not Drive or File Folder....unless the menu item actually appears when you right-click a drive or folder. it does not give me the option to remove it! Yes, DIVX is the default player for the AVI files and they do open when double-clicking on the file.
