file transfer to computer with XP
I just purchased a computer running XP and need to
transfer all data files from the ME computer. How can I do that? XP seems to have a file transfer capability from XP to XP, but how can I do it from ME to XP? Thanks. |

Use XP's Files And Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST) which works on Win Me.
For a discussion of FAST and what it can do see Gary Woodruff's article at http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP [2001-2004] HB wrote: I just purchased a computer running XP and need to transfer all data files from the ME computer. Thanks, this helps and has me headed in the right
diretion. However, I cannot get the two computers to recognize each other. I have connected them with a CAT 5e crossover cable and have tried to set up a network. I gave the workgroup the same name on each and have named each computer individually. The XP computer does not show the ME computer on the network. When viewing the network connections screen on the XP, it does seem to know when the ME computer is on or off. When on, it shows 'limited or no connectivity'. When off, it shows 'network cable unplugged'. I have rebooted both computers. What could I be missing? Thanks. -----Original Message----- Use XP's Files And Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST) which works on Win Me. Have you run the Networking Wizard on the XP box - and disabled the firewall
on the Ethernet connection? -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "HB" wrote in message ... Thanks. Yes, I had run the networking wizard and I have
disabled the firewall in XP and also disable Norton Internet Security, would those be the Ethernet connection firewalls? I tried again to set-up another LAN with a different name, but that one doesn't even appear in the network connections window. I have rebooted both computers again. but still no change. -----Original Message----- Have you run the Networking Wizard on the XP box - and disabled the firewall on the Ethernet connection? -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "HB" wrote in message ...
