Default Missing Icons

a) glad you made up your mind... feel free to share a piece of it.

b) *my* computer works

c) SCANREG /FIX can also be run from Start/Run as well as from a DOS
Window, but since that's already been mentioned you should have
mentioned your Start Menu wasn't working in your original post.

d) a boot floppy can be made from
ControlPanel/AddRemovePrograms/StartupDisk as previously posted... sorry
I forgot your Start Menu's broken.

Mind you all that is much too complicated for me, personally...
hopefully somebody else will jump in.

(murphy's law of course dictates that by now scanreg/fix won't do a thing)

cannot download from this computer.

That's making up my mind!!!

Make up your mind. In another post you say you don't

have Internet

access. The link provided is one to make the disk, btw.

Options suggested so far have included:

SCANREG/FIX which can be typed into a DOS Window

(requires a reboot

afterwards).

To get a bootdisk (you should have one whether you

actually need one

this minute or not), either:

a) download the bootmaker from
www.bootdisk.com or
b) ControlPanel/AddRemovePrograms/StartupDisk

A better option would be to use SCANDISK /FIX and

see

if that works - if

not, then try the /RESTORE option.
If that fails, then try System Restore - look here for

instructions

The boot floppy is not an original disk - you are

supposed to make it

yourself.

Go to www.bootdisk.com and download the ME boot disk

files.

I don't have any of the original disks...no boot

floppy.

-----Original Message-----
IF you have the ME safety boot floppy you can use

it to

boot the computer

and at the A:\ prompt type SCANREG/ RESTORE to

return

things to an earlier

date/time.

The other day I was on my computer and it froze.

So I

did the only thing that I could do and powered it

off.

When I turned it back on my wallpaper appeared

but all

my

icons were gone. Even in SAFE mode the icons do

not

appear. This computer was given to me and had

Windows

ME

on it when I got it...so I do not have the

original

disks. Any ideas on what caused this or what I

can do

to

fix it. It's hard to troubleshoot when you don't

have

any icons to click on.

Thanks
