Zee,

Sorry to have butted in but thought I'd see if I could help get Erika one
step further along before you returned.

Cheers,

Mike,

Don't be sorry!!

Do butt in whenever you feel appropriate.

I do believe in team work, even when Windows isn't the issue.
;-)

Thanks,

Zee

You can't really butt in, in a public forum! Isn't that why we post
here, so anyone can help or learn, and not take our emails private? so,
thanks again, Mike!

Everybody -- I'm sorry to be such a pest but this is so darn confusing
to me!!!!

I did add that line to regedit. I did get into Windows update and
download MSIE critical update (the big one that you have to install
separately) I did get a message that IE was successfully updated. I am
running v 6.0.2600.000IS (not sure if this is changed). Now when I
reboot the computer Setup wants to run. I have tried to run Setup
several times and get this error message each time:

"
It appears you have the correct setup files, but the installation
failed. Try closing down all other programs and try running Setup again.
If that still does not work, contact Microsoft Product Support Services
for additional help.
"

I am running setup right after reboot with no programs open. Every time
I reboot Setup is there!

Like I said sorry to be such a pain but if it's not one thing it's
another!!!!

Erika,

This may help, even if it seems your error is not the common "unable to
install all components".

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

.... and yet another voice chimes in ... try running setup in Safe Mode,
Erika. http://snipurl.com/6et0 or
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01052409420406

Antivirus software may be interefering with IE's installation.
If no joy, then Zee has a method to get IE to install properly.

Just wanted to comment that when I used Windows Update, it re-set IE as
the default browser without asking me. Bad manners!!!
