You mean run win-98 as a virtual machine, being emulated on a system
running XP or some other NT-based OS?

In order to do that, I would have to be comfortable with the idea that
the "host" OS is NT-based, and I would essentially become a slave to the
wants and needs of the host OS just for the sake of being able to run
win-98 in a handicapped, crippled mode as a virtual machine, with
limited graphics, video, USB and sound capability.

There is no point running win-98 as a virtual machine if you want to use
win-98 as your primary OS.

If the underlying hardware has full win-98 driver support, then you run
win-98 as your primary or only OS.

The virtual machine for win-98 is usually a pathetic video card and
graphics resolution.

Can you run win-98 as a virtual machine, and run VLC and watch a 1080i
hidef movie?

Can you play a 2-channel stereo, 24-bit/192 khz audio file on win-98
running as a virtual machine?

I can do those things running win-98 in native mode.
