Default Adding a persistent environment variable. How ?

Hello Hot-Text,

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Sea...iptomatic&ac=4

Als, that link lands me on an (Italean) "No results found for: ..." page
("Nessun risultato trovato per: Scriptomatic ") (not that I know Italean,
but changing the "it-IT" bit to "en-US" did wonders)

As for the suggestion "alt.msdos" I'm not so sure that will be helpful. ...

Although Win98se has quite a bit in common with DOS, the fact that Windows
in multi-process means that the parent of a certain process can cease to
exist, while the child keeps running. That means that there is no way to,
as you can do in DOS, traverse backwards to a processes parents,
grandparents and so on until you find the master-environment (the one not
having a parent).

Yes, been there, done that (traversing back environment-blocks in DOS as
well as trying to discover what the parent was of a to-be-started (thru the
shell) program). :-)

Thanks for the suggestion though,
Rudy Wieser

Hello Hot-Text,

In my case its just duplicating the, for example, current
computer name into an environment-variable. So that
any program/console-window will see it.

I'm afraid you missed the "for example" bit in the above. The idea is
that
I would like to be able to add/change an environment variable to the
"process" group. What goes into that variable is and which name its

going
to get is non-important at this moment

Also, would that INCLUDE add all the names I have in my host-list to the
environment of all started processes ? I hope not, as I use it as a
(crude)
anti-spam filter (it contains a slew of names, all redirected to
127.0.0.1).
:-)

Good move on stopping spam

Regards,
Rudy Wieser

I try to get you a US-EN But all I can get was the Italean
but the Help videos are in ENG.

I believe you are right on that one

DOS is a good environment for win-98

ISAM (pronounced "eye sam") stands for Indexed Sequential Access Method
Info @ http://www.mixsoftware.com/product/db/intro1.htm
the website is Dead for the Software but good for Info
ISAM now refers to almost any way of indexing a file of data records
