Default Shut Down Error ME and HP P1000

I recently had Windows ME reinstalled on my computer after
a hardware failure. If I install the drivers for my HP
P1000 photo printer, the system will not shut down. When
clicking on "shut down", system begins routine. I get
the "It is now safe to shut down your computer screen",
but then you can hear the system rebooting. My local
technician believes this means the system is searching for
a DLL file. I have gone to HP, but they have not offered
a suggestion. The drivers are their most recent version.
The printer is connected via USB. If I remove the printer
and uninstall the drives, my system shuts down just fine.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
