Is there a way to Redate a file in 98?
Is there a way to Redate a file in 98?
I have a very old dos application to redate files. Works fine for 8.3 names but not long file names. This is not something I do often, but the need is there at times. ---- Alcoholics Anonymous - Created Under the Influence of Belladonna & LSD |

I usually just drop to Dos and use good ol' Touch, specifying the "short" filename: reallylongfilename.txt = really~1.txt But since you mentioned it, I had a quick look around the InterWeb...... http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.zip Only 21k, you don't have to remember short filenames or syntax, just fire it up, browse, add files, and change. I think it's my new favorite! (I'm sure there's some other utility that can install itself directly into the right-click context menus, but I didn't bother looking for one.) |

"Properties Plus" http://www.brothersoft.com/propertiesplus-5394.html is one such (adds itself to right-click just below "Properties", as you might expect). -- J. P. Gilliver. I have a very old dos application to redate files. Works fine for 8.3 names but not long file names. This is not something I do often, but the need is there at times. Attribute Changer has a context menu interface. The latest version 6.20 doesn't support Win98, but 6.10a works fine and is available on the download page. http://www.petges.lu/products/ac/ I also sometimes use the 'touch' function built into the alternative file manager PowerDesk. There are likely free file managers which also include this feature, but they would be a tad overkill if that is all you want. |

I never found a better tool for it than that one. It's a permanent part of any install I do. Extension changing, handling of files via their shortcuts, and several other good things in it too. About 350 KB installed, and worth it all. |

I think it's my new favorite! It's extremely good. I found it recently while looking for ways to shut a monitor down. It won't shut a hard disk motor off at will, so I had to find a way to do that myself (with help from Rudloph Loew), but NIRCMD is so efficient and so powerful that it is a good permanent part of a W98 install. |

I see there are quite a few programs to try. I'll have to check them out. |
