XP SP2 and 98SE Network
I just recently purchased a new computer with Windows XP
SP2 and connected it to my Microsoft MN-100 wired router using a cable modem to connect to the internet. I then connected my old computer, which uses Windows 98 SE, to the router as well. I can connect to the internet on both machines, check e-mail using Outlook Express and each can function fine. I shared the entire C:\ on the 98SE computer in an effort to copy some files to the new XP computer. In My Network Places on the XP, I can see the C:\ of the 98SE, and I transferred the files over to the XP. However, when I share a directory on the XP computer, I cannot "see" it on the 98SE computer. When I attempt to Find Computer or Files on the 98SE, the computer takes a very long time and then returns with No Files Found. Also, the 98SE does not "see" the new Epson Photo Printer that I just installed on the new XP computer. The 98SE will be located in my son's room, and I suppose he could just save his work and then go to the XP computer to copy, and or print it, but I would like to try and fix it. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to resolve these two issues? |
