Default How do I free up physical memory to windows?

I am trying to get a dsl line, but they tell me I need at
least 64,000 KB of physical memory available to windows.
I have 63,852 - I have deleted unused programs, cookies
etc. and that number hasn't changed. To find the number I
am going under control panel, help, about windows. Please
help - my dial up is sooo slow!

The only way to change that figure is to install more RAM. Your figure is
probably short of the magic 64Mb figure by the amount needed to support the
video adapter card.

The amount of RAM installed does not affect your ability to use DSL,
provided it is sufficient to allow Windows to run. 64Mb is small in today's
terms, but it is more than adequate for Windows 98 or 98SE. The difference
between your figure and 64Mb is completely irrelevant. Unfortunately, it
might be sufficient to allow a DSL provider to disclaim responsibility for
providing support when you have a problem. You should find a different
provider.

In your autoexec.bat you can use the loadhigh command
which will stick the relevant program into high memory
freeing up base memory ( your mkagic 64mb)

Think this is what you needed.

Base memory is 640K, not 64Mb, and the figure that OP is referring to
(Control Panel / Help / About Windows) is the installed RAM, not the base
memory.

I suggest you buy another 64mb of memory - it is so cheap!!

See crucial.com for guide-lines to type needed.
