Default Lexar 1GB jumpdrive secur

Steve:

I I've got a Lexar Media jumpdrive secure 1 GB. I'm trying to run it on
I a windows 98 computer. I had to download MFC42u.dll and put it in the
I system file to work. After doing so, it still won't work, and I get
I the message:
I
I
I "This application or DLL can not be loaded on Windows 95 or on Windows
I 3.1. It takes advantage of Unicode features only available on Windows
I NT."
I
I Any ideas how to get around this?

Try downloading the W98 installation file from Lexar again and
re-install. I have a 256MB from them and it installed fine under
W98SE (maybe that's the problem: SE vs. plain 98?)

Barry:
thanks for your response. I tried downloading the driver again and the
same thing happened. I tried it on another windows 98 box and no luck
there. These computers both use Windows 98 SE. I contacted their tech
support and they told me it was an operating system problem and that I
should go to Windows.com. Another poster suggested I remove the
software installed on the drive and it will work then. I'd rather get
another type of jumpdrive. The reason I got it was I give
presentations at conferences often and I wanted to store my PowerPoint
files on the jumpdrive, along with a backup copy on CD. This drive
either too clunky for that, or I'm not Windows savvy enough to get it
to work. Regardless, back to the store it goes.

Thanks all for your help and Happy Holidays.
Best,
Steve

There is no site www.windows.com.
If you enter that, MS takes you to an XP
site which will not help your Win98 problem.
Perhaps you did not tell Lexar Tech Support
you use Win98.

Quite right, Don, I wasn't typing carefully when I posted this morning.
Lexar asked me to contact "MICROSOFT" (use of allcaps was theirs)
regarding this issue and directed me to www.microsoft.com and
www.support.microsoft.com.
I did inform them it was a windows 98 SE system.
Best,
Steve
