increasing the font size on WordPad
My eyes are failing me, and I need to increase the text size on the
screen to avoid squinting, at least without putting on my new glasses that give me a headache because I'm not used to them yet (or so the eye doctor insists). I'm using my win98 system to display FAQs from Gamefaqs.com while playing games on my newer computer. Is there any way to change the default font in Wordpad to 12-point instead of 10-point? I don't need to change the display DPI, just the text in Wordpad when I open a .txt file that is too large for Notepad. Notepad remembers my font size, why not Wordpad? |

I was in a rush because the oven timer was going off indicating my pizza was ready. I should have added a few things. One, I know I can change the font once the file is opened, but I'm sick and tiered of having to change it EVERY time I double-click on a file. I want to change the DEFAULT font, so that I only have to do it once. Two, I am not afraid of registry changes or hex editors, if that is necessary. I've tried looking myself, but can't find anything obvious. I just need instructions on what to change. If there's a command line parameter I can use by changing the association in Folder Options, that might work, though I'd prefer to leave Notepad as the default. Whatever works, though I'd rather not have to wait for Microsoft Word 97 or Open Office Writer 2.4.3 to load. Even with the quick starter, they take too long and use too much RAM for what I'm trying to do. I do have both programs available, and the reason I have both is so I can open & print .docx files on my print server without waiting for my modern system to load if I need a printout quickly when the computers are turned off. |

You can use a trick as I think you can't change the default font in Wpad.
Create a rtf document with a "space", select the space, choose your font and size, save as your template.rtf. In properties, tick read only to avoid modifying it, be sure that rtf files open with Wpad. Change your shortcuts to open Wpad so that they open your-template.rtf and that's it." Hope this helps, not mine, but tried it and works for me. "SlickRCBD" wrote in message ... I think that'll work if opening Wordpad to create a new document; SlickRCBD wants to be able to double-click on a file and have WP open it with the new settings. (More below ...) [] Why Wordpad - do these FAQs have formatting etc.? Or are they just too large for Notepad, in which case use one of the many Notepad substitutes that don't have the size limit - I use rogsoft's NotePad+, available from (among many other places) http://wareseeker.com/Home-Shell-Des...11.zip/3512975 (I don't know if that can have its default tweaked), but there are many others. -- J. The simplest thing is to stop using both Wordpad and Notepad and use Metapad. It will open any size file - including non-text files - and has options for two type styles of any (available) size. http://liquidninja.com/metapad/ -- dadiOH ____________________________ dadiOH's dandies v3.06... ....a help file of info about MP3s, recording from LP/cassette and tips & tricks on this and that.
