Default C:\My Computer Pie Chart - Supposed to be in color or B&W in Win98SE?

I can't remember.

Recently wiped HDD of laptop and reinstalled Win98SE to start fresh (giving
laptop to my sister). WinXp Pro has a color pie chart. Silly, I know, but I
want to be sure things are as they should be.

Help please. :-)
Cheryl

We assume the pie chart you mean is / Properties [ for one drive
selected ]: yes, it should be in two colours (space filled and space
used.) If yours is not, this is a hint you may not have installed
the correct video card drivers. Two items to check:
1. Is there a yellow trouble flag at
/ Settings / Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Display Adapter ?

2. When you right click on a patch of empty Desktop and select
/ Properties (last item) do "Display Properties" show a variety of
panels from BACKGROUND (leftmost) to SETTINGS (rightmost)
each with a variety of settings and custom options? SETTINGS
ought to allow you to select (for example) 256 colors or 16-bit
color system or True Color (32-bit). Try other settings if they
are present. If not present, reinstal the Display Adapter Driver.
(If installing Win98SE from a generic CD it may lack the
custom video driver for your laptop. You may find it at the
maker's web site.)

That's right...
but if all else is OK I would not worry about it...

OTOH: If *all* your colors are muted...then you will probably need to
install the video card drivers
to get it to work right

Thanks Don, Alan and philo. My fault. I was looking under My Computer
without selecting a drive then Properties first. Duh. The pie chart IS in
color. So sorry. Don, your mentioning "Properties" helped me to see my
mistake. I've been sleepwalking cross-eyed all week (not enough rest).
Thanks again! :-/ :-)
