Default Currently Supported Software Firewall Solution for Win98SE?

| I have a few more questions related to the fresh install of Win98 on
this
| laptop that I'm giving to my sister. May I neatly list them here or
should
| I
| start separate posts for each question? They're simple questions.

| You might as well ask all your questions in one post if it's a short
enough
| list

Thanks. I'll try to be brief. Hope some of these can be answered.

1. Configuration Builder CD for Win98SE. May I make a copy of this CD in
case something should happen to the original? (I suppose the answer is
buried somewhere in the license agreement, but I'm too tired to look for
it). If someone knows off-hand, that would be great. If not, I'll deal with
this tomorrow.

2. Is the "factory system install boot disk", that I was directed to make
after inserting the Configuration Builder CD into the drive, the same disk
as the option in Windows to "create a system disk". Don't want redundancy.

3. This is most likely something I should ask in a Toshiba NG but I'll give
it a shot here (I'll go to that NG if you really think I should):

I'd like to delete some software desktop icons that my sister probably will
not need. The programs would still be available, of course, just not so
readily. Can you tell me which of these icons I may remove? Any suggestions
as to which programs I can uninstall all together?

-Setup MSN Internet Access. (I already stepped through this and she won't
be setting up email right away)
-My Yahoo for Toshiba (internet setup and special offers - a bit too late
for this, no?)
-Easy Internet Signup (so far, that's three icons for essentially the
same thing?)
-Online Services (she'll be using Comcast's high-speed cable internet)
-Toshiba Registration (my thinking is, "what's to register?", she'll
simply have a legal copy of old software that belongs to the laptop)
-Network Neighborhood (she'll be using one laptop hooked up to a cable
modem and router - no real network)

I already found that the Toshiba Owner's Privilege's icon goes nowhere on
the net (page not found, of course) and deleted that one.

4. Finally, with all the newfound security concerns with PDF files, I
hesitate to install Adobe's PDF reader on her machine. But, eventually,
she'll be prompted to download the reader anyway. I read he
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...?tag=sas.email
that I can set up some level of protection by setting the browser to save
PDF files on the computer rather than opening them in the browser and that I
can then tell the browser to send downloads to the desktop. I can also teach
my sister about safe computing. I think this might be a better solution than
leaving her on her own. Any thoughts about this?

Well, that's it for this post. I have several more questions that are more
complicated and will post those separately, perhaps tomorrow.

Thanks for your continued interest in helping me!
Cheryl

I'll just comment on this one.
Instead of using the large download and bloated Acrobat reader...

Use the efficient Foxit to read pdf files

Thanks for the tip & link, philo. I didn't know about this program. Will
check it out. I'm all for unbloated software.

Cheryl :-)
