I have - only - one desktop icon that will not stay where is have placed it.
I do not have anything checked in "Arrange Icons". Is there a registry
setting I can tweak to assure this icon will stay in its place.

Thank you in advance.

Not sure about what is moving your Desktop icon, however, the following site
has a dandy little app that will restore your desktop icon arrangement if it
becomes scrambled from being in the Safe Mode or any other reason. I use
it, it is very small, does not require installation, simply runs from an
executable on your Desktop (or wherever you wish to keep it).

SGB, is your "only - one desktop icon" a shortcut, a program or a
document/picture/music/etc. file?

If a shortcut, have you tried deleting it and re-creating a new one?

If either of the other two options, should/need it really be on the desktop
anyway?

Odd that 'only - one' won't stay. Checked for viruses/malware/etc.?

Hey Mart-

Nope.. not a shortcut. It is the icon for the Lotus Organizer. Can't delete
without reinstalling. Very useful to keep on my desktop. No viruses,
malware, etc found in my computer either.
Yep... very odd indeed.

Very, very long time since I used LO (possibly not even in WinMe), but can't
ever recall an icon issue.

Where does it move to? Always to the same place?
Name, Size, Type, or Modified order?

It certainly sounds like a registry issue - but...

Set the icon then set an SR point, re-boot and see if it remains?
Or even set it and then try running scanreg to set a new .cab backup in the
sysbckup folder

Stumped!

I'm a little surprised that Heirloom (I believe it was you, sir) didn't
suggest Iconoid from SillySot (don't laugh, this is correct) which does an
excellent job of restoring icon positions when they are scrambled (as when
coming back from Safe Mode). Iconoid is capable of many other things as
well, but it's invaluable for putting desktop icons back where you expect
them.

Go to:

http://www.sillysot.com/

and read the specs.

Hey Ken!!!!
Good to hear your face! Yeah, I used to use Iconoid, but, the
"Save my Desktop" app is a lot smaller and is a "one trick pony." The
Iconoid had too much other crap that I would never use.......at the time I
found it, it was the best of the freebies. Just don't use the "Icon Dance"
feature! It is a huge resource hog.
Don't understand, SGB, why you shouldn't be able to delete a
shortcut without uninstalling the proggy....what happens when you try to
delete it?? (makes me wonder if it is actually a shortcut.........right
clicking it and selecting Properties should tell you). the Save my
Desktop app........what happened when you tried to use it?? A simple test
is to use the app, move an icon and then, use the app to restore the
position(s).
Heirloom, old and gotta work this weekend,
ugh, hot.

Heirloom-

The icon I am referring to is NOT a shortcut.
I discovered the link for "Save My Desktop!" went down one day before you
posted your reply.
It reads:

Welcome to WinSite! You have reached us while we are undergoing routine
summer maintenance, moving servers within our Internet provider's facility,
and upgrading our hardware.
We appreciate your patience while we work to bring you the best in Windows
