RAM for Pentium II
I am running Win 98 with a Pentium(r)II Processor, Intel MMX(TM) with 32 MB
of RAM. Is it possible to get more RAM for this older processor? IF so, will it increase my Internet download speed? I ran disk defrag and the speed of my computer is ok. I am trying to increase my internet access speed. I am using dialup. I am not budgeted for DSL or a new machine, so I have to keep what I have. Thanks in advance. Bryan |

Ram has to match your motherboard, not your processor. IF so, will it increase my Internet download speed? What speed do you conect at now ? I ran disk defrag and the speed of my computer is ok. If it is a brand name syste e.g. Compaq, HP, etc., goto crucial.com and see
what your model needs. If not a named system, look at the motherboard manual or motherboard and see what model board and go to mobo mfgr site. Otherwise, can some times tell from the markings on existing memory chips but cannot tell if there is a maximum amout for the board. "bryan" wrote in message ... thanks for your reply. Ram will not increase your download speed--DSL or a cable modem will.
However, 32 mb of ram is not really adequate for W98--64 mb is the minimum I would recommend. Try crucial.com for a price on SDRam. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "bryan" wrote in message ...
