Default Defrag popup annoyance

Win98 SE
192 MB RAM

I use my computer frequently. So much in fact, that I think My computer is
telling me to defrag my computer. I leave one program on overnight, and when
I wake up to check on it, sure enough, defrag has popped up and frozen my
computer. I hate when this happens, and I don't know how to stop it. Could
anybody Help me?

Start Programs Accessories System Tools Scheduled Tasks:
Select the Defrag scheduled task, and disable it or delete it.

snip top of upside-down reply

That'll solve the immediate problem that a hung Defrag is coming up
overnight, but won't solve the problem that the OP can't defrag because
it hangs.

OP: Have you tried running scandisk? This might reveal what's crashing
Defrag. OTOH it might not....

Stewart.
