Default Internet Explorer crashes and can't be used

Every time I try to start IE, I got an error box. Tried to download from MS
and re-install without success. The system seems to be virus and spyware
free (half a dozen tools in safe mode with nothing wrong detected).
Is ther any suggest?

Thanks

Jacques

Jacques,

Is ther any suggest?

You could start by posting full details of the actual error(s) you are
seeing when attempting to use IE as well as details IE's version and patch
level (Help | About IE when in IE will give you this information).

The only thing I know is that IE can't be opened so I can't have any other
information (including help/about IE or patches applied to Me).
Any attempt to launch IE gives a messagebox "Illegal operation performed :
Internet Explorer must be closed" so I need another way to know anything
about the actual version.
AutoUpdate seems to work but without IE, I can't go to history. I think some
updates could have be succesfull so IE could be any version including IE6. A
lot of viruses could also have modified the system before they are cleanned.
Other browsers (ie. Mozilla) can be installed and help for web surfing but
they don't support ActivX so no Windows Update, no AV on-line scan and so
on.

What could help is a way to fully reinstall IE and/or faulty Windows
component (and how to know which one) but avoiding a full re-install from
scratch.

Jacques,

You can scan the system with Trend Housecall from their European site
with any browser as long as the Sun JRE is installed :
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php

IE can be repaired but what caused the issue remains . Suggest trying
the online scan using Firefox with JRE 5.0 Update 3 installed
http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/...actionId=noreg
or, install Firefox and then download and scan with Sysclean instead
of/or in conjunction with an online scan :
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php...d86f e1b10f32

Enable hidden files, folders, and system files, first :
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

A good malware removal program is a² - FREE :
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download

To be able to use it, you only must set up a free a² Account, to get
access to the update server.
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/account

After installing, registering, and then updating a² - FREE, boot to Safe
Mode http://snipurl.com/8u0a and scan the system with it. When it's
finished make sure the boxes are checked next to any malware it finds
and have any detected items removed.

Once the system has been cleaned ( you will have to reboot to normal
Windows mode and scan from there also to confirm this ) then you can do
a repair of IE in Safe Mode using the steps laid out here :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=194177
