Default What useless desktop icons can I safely remove?

I have many useless desktop icons. I plan to delete them.
I have doubles of the entry icon for my server,
Compuserve. Will it harm anything to remove the unused one?
How do I delete the desktop itmes that I want
deleted?
Do I go to add remove, or just delete them from the
desktop? Will I free up space by deleting unneeded icons?
Thanks.

Drag the unwanted items to your recycle bin, by clicking

on the top left of your mouse and holding the button down
until you reach the bin. Then release button. This will
delete your icons, but not the programmes. To delete
programmes use remove. Space saved is small. John

there are shortcut icons which have the little arrow in its corner... feel
free to delete these at will, either by dragging them to you bin with the
left-hand button held or by clicking on them & choosing "delete" from menu
brought up by pressing the right-hand button...

if there are icons without the shortcut sign on them, think twice as these
could be files left out on the desktop....
